To qualify for the exemption:

• The home must be commissioned by the person who will live in it as their main residence.

• The individual must have primary input into the design of the home.

• The owner must live in the property for a minimum of three years after completion.

• The required CIL exemption forms must be submitted and approved before construction starts.

If the property is sold, let, or ceases to be the owner’s main residence within the three‑year period, the CIL exemption is withdrawn and the CIL charge becomes payable in full.
